When using an external reference frequency, the signal must be connected to pin XTAL1(OSC_IN) and the register bits XTAL_MODE need to be set to the external oscillator mode for power saving reasons. The oscillation peak-to-peak amplitude shall be between 100mV and 500mV, the optimum range is between 400mV and 500mV. Pin  XTAL2(OSC_OUT) should not be wired. It is possible to use sine or square wave signals.

当使用有源晶振提供外部参考频率时，信号必须连接到芯片引脚XTAL1（时钟信号输入）。为了节省电力，需要将寄存器位Xtal_mode设置为外部振荡器模式。振荡峰-峰幅值应在100mV-500mV之间，最佳范围为400mV-500 MV。芯片引脚XTAL2（时钟信号输出）不应被连接。简而言之，在该范例中就是把有源晶振引脚#3（Output）连接到芯片引脚XTAL1（时钟信号输入）。可以为其提供正弦波或方波信号，一般有源晶振默认为方波信号输出。
